The Opportunity
Matilda Cloud is one of the most consequential platforms being built in cloud right now. We help enterprises do what most of them know they need to do but cannot figure out how to do well: assess complex multi-cloud estates, migrate workloads without breaking the business, modernize what is worth modernizing, and run all of it with intelligence baked in. Our platform pairs machine learning with real-time operational data to automate work that has historically required armies of consultants and months of risk.
We are building our product management and agile delivery practices simultaneously, and the Product Owner is a critical connector between the two. You will work at the intersection of product vision and engineering execution, translating roadmap priorities into a well-maintained, clearly ordered backlog that gives our scrum teams what they need to deliver with confidence and speed.
This role requires someone who is equally comfortable in a backlog grooming session and a customer conversation — someone who sweats the details of a user story without losing sight of the goal it serves. You will operate within a PM practice that is still taking shape, which means you will have real influence over how the PO function is defined and practiced here.
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a role where the backlog is already curated and the ceremonies are already running. You will help build the agile delivery practice as you go — working in close partnership with the Product Manager to define what good backlog health looks like at Matilda Cloud, and with engineering to build the trust and rhythm that makes sprint delivery predictable.
The PO function here is yours to define. That is a challenge and an opportunity in equal measure.
What You Will Own
Backlog Ownership & Management
Own and maintain a well-ordered, sprint-ready product backlog, ensuring every item is clearly written, appropriately sized, and prioritized in a way the team understands and trusts.
Write high-quality user stories with clear acceptance criteria, edge case documentation, and sufficient context for engineering to build without repeated clarification cycles.
Facilitate backlog grooming sessions that are efficient and outcome-focused; surface ambiguities and dependencies early so they do not surface mid-sprint.
Maintain backlog health as a continuous discipline through regularly pruning, re-prioritizing, and retiring items that no longer reflect current strategy.
Sprint Execution Partnership
Serve as the primary product point of contact for the scrum team throughout the sprint; available to answer questions, clarify intent, and make rapid scope decisions when reality diverges from the plan.
Participate actively in sprint ceremonies: planning, daily standups as needed, reviews, and retrospectives contributing to continuous improvement of how the team works.
Accept or reject completed work against defined acceptance criteria with consistency and clear rationale; provide actionable feedback when work does not meet the bar.
Identify and escalate impediments that are blocking delivery; partner with the Scrum Master to resolve them quickly.
Stakeholder & PM Alignment
Maintain close alignment with the Product Manager on roadmap priorities, ensuring the backlog reflects current strategy and that trade-offs are surfaced and resolved at the right level.
Communicate sprint progress, scope changes, and emerging risks to the PM and relevant stakeholders in a timely, clear manner.
Represent the product and engineering team's delivery capacity honestly in planning conversations, pushing back constructively when scope threatens commitment quality.
AI-Assisted Workflow
Use AI tools to improve the speed and quality of backlog work including drafting and refining user stories, generating acceptance criteria scaffolding, and synthesizing customer feedback into structured requirements input.
Bring judgment about where AI-assisted drafting adds value versus where specificity and domain knowledge require the work to be done manually.
Customer & Domain Fluency
Develop working knowledge of the data center to cloud and cloud-to-cloud services domain sufficient to write meaningful stories, ask the right clarifying questions, and represent customer intent accurately to engineering.
Participate in customer discovery activities alongside the PM — including interviews and feedback sessions — to maintain a direct connection to the problems the product is solving.
What You Bring
Required
3+ years of experience as a Product Owner or in a closely adjacent role (Business Analyst, Associate PM, or similar) working within agile scrum teams.
Demonstrably strong user story writing skills: you can show examples of requirements that are clear, testable, and complete without being over-specified.
Solid working knowledge of agile and scrum practices; certified Product Owner (CSPO or equivalent) preferred.
Proven ability to manage a complex backlog across multiple workstreams or feature areas simultaneously.
Experience working in enterprise B2B software environments with technically sophisticated stakeholders.
Comfortable using AI tools in day-to-day workflow for drafting, synthesis, or research tasks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; organized, detail-oriented, and reliable under sprint-cycle pressure.
Preferred
Background in or strong familiarity with data center infrastructure, cloud services, or infrastructure software.
Experience working within a PM practice that was actively being built or formalized.
Exposure to tools such as Jira, Linear, Productboard, or similar backlog and roadmap management platforms.
Experience working with distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.
Why Matilda Cloud, Why Now
This is an opportunity to help build a product and agile delivery function from the ground up at a company with serious momentum. You will work alongside a Product Manager and engineering leadership who are invested in making this function work well.
