The Opportunity
Matilda Cloud is one of the most consequential platforms being built in cloud right now. We help enterprises do what most of them know they need to do but cannot figure out how to do well: assess complex multi-cloud estates, migrate workloads without breaking the business, modernize what is worth modernizing, and run all of it with intelligence baked in. Our platform pairs machine learning with real-time operational data to automate work that has historically required armies of consultants and months of risk.
The next phase of our growth depends on a finance function that is sophisticated, fast, and built for scale. We are hiring a Vice President of Finance to build it.
Why This Role Is Different
This is a build-the-function role at a company where finance is treated as a strategic lever, not a cost center. You will report to the CEO, be a member of the executive team, and have direct visibility with the Board. You will build the systems and the team. You will design how we forecast, close, and report. You will be the financial voice in every strategic conversation — pricing, packaging, partnerships, M&A, fundraising — and you will help us make the bets that determine how big this company becomes.
What You Will Own
FP&A and Business Insight
Build a comprehensive FP&A capability — budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, and the operating cadence that keeps the company aligned to its plan.
Own the SaaS metric stack — ARR, NRR, GRR, CAC, payback period, magic number, cohort retention, gross margin by product — and use it to drive real business decisions, not just monthly reporting.
Build unit economics and segmentation analysis that tell us where to invest and where to pull back.
Partner with sales, marketing, product, and engineering leaders to translate financial insight into action.
Accounting, Controls, and Compliance
Build robust accounting operations — close calendar, controls, audit readiness, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and a clean foundation for future audit and compliance milestones.
Manage the order-to-cash process end-to-end — billing, collections, cash application, and accurate cash forecasting.
Establish financial reporting frameworks for internal stakeholders, the Board, investors, and (eventually) external audit.
Treasury, Cash, and Capital
Own cash management, forecasting, and runway planning with the precision a growth-stage company demands.
Support fundraising — investor materials, due diligence, financial diligence rooms, and term-sheet analysis.
Manage banking relationships and credit facilities as we scale.
Financial Systems and AI-Augmented Finance
Design and implement the financial technology stack — ERP, FP&A platform, billing, expense, equity, and the integrations that tie them together.
Build an AI-native finance function from day one — using AI for close acceleration, anomaly detection, forecast variance analysis, vendor spend analysis, contract review, and operational reporting.
Set clear policies on where AI is sanctioned in the finance workflow, where it requires human review, and how outputs are validated.
Stay close to the frontier — track how AI is reshaping the finance function and bring the best ideas into Matilda Cloud.
Strategic Partnership and Executive Influence
Be the financial co-pilot to the CEO and the executive team — bringing rigor and judgment to every strategic decision.
Lead financial analysis for pricing and packaging, partnership economics, M&A evaluation, and major investment decisions.
Present to the Board with clarity and confidence.
Translate financial reality into business recommendations — and translate business strategy back into financial models that hold up.
Team, Culture, and Diversity
Build and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team as the organization grows.
Develop the career frameworks, hiring rubrics, and team norms that make this a function people want to join and stay in.
Hire and grow a team that reflects the diversity of thought, background, and experience our company values.
Model the Matilda Cloud culture — curiosity, ownership, kindness, and excellence.
Who You Are
Energized by hard, ambiguous, important problems — and visibly excited by the opportunity at Matilda Cloud.
A creative builder — you see opportunities to design better systems, smarter processes, and stronger teams.
Comfortable toggling between strategic and operational finance — same week, sometimes same day.
Customer-obsessed about your internal customers — sales, product, engineering, the CEO, the Board.
A growth-mindset leader who treats every quarter as a chance to push the company toward its maximum potential.
A clear, compelling communicator — able to brief a Board, explain a model, and coach a junior analyst in the same day.
Honest, humble, and high-agency — you take ownership, tell the truth, and do not wait to be asked.
What You Bring
Required
Experience building or significantly maturing a finance function at a B2B SaaS or enterprise software company.
Strong foundation in both accounting and FP&A — you can toggle between strategic and operational finance.
Track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams.
Expertise implementing and operating financial systems and technology that scale (ERP, FP&A, billing, equity).
Deep SaaS metrics fluency — ARR, NRR, GRR, CAC, payback, cohort retention, unit economics.
Strategic mindset with the ability to translate financial insights into business recommendations leadership can act on.
Excellent communication skills — able to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including the Board.
Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and comfort with ambiguity.
Preferred
CPA or MBA.
Experience supporting a fundraising round or M&A transaction.
Experience preparing a company for audit or for the controls maturity needed for later-stage milestones.
Familiarity with AI-augmented finance tools and a point of view on where they belong in a modern finance stack.
Why Matilda Cloud, Why Now
Finance is a strategic lever at Matilda Cloud, not a back office. You will report to the CEO, sit on the executive team, and play a central role in shaping how big this company becomes. Competitive base, performance bonus, and meaningful equity in a high-growth company. Hybrid work from our Richardson, TX office. Comprehensive health, dental, vision, 401(k) match, and PTO.
How to Apply
Send your resume to careers@matildacloud.com along with a short note describing a finance function (or pillar of one) you built and what it measurably changed.
